The LTC3766HUFD#PBF is a current-mode, pulse width modulating (PWM) power supply controller. It combines advanced integrated features with a low external component count to provide cost-effective solutions for a wide range of off-line power supply applications. The LTC3766HUFD#PBF is specifically designed for single-stage, primary-side-controlled power supplies utilizing the traditional avalanche mode of PWM control. Working Principle of LTC3766HUFD#PBF

The LTC3766HUFD#PBF is a current-mode, pulse-width modulating (PWM) power supply controller. It combines advanced integrated features with a low external component count to provide cost-effective solutions for a wide range of off-line power supply applications. The controller works on a clock-cycle basis and controls AC/DC power conversion. Its operation can be simplified into 4 different stages: voltage sensing, current sensing, comparing and driving.

In the first stage of operation, called voltage sensing, the controller senses an ac mains voltage. The second stage of operation is the current sensing stage, where the controller senses how much current is available in the output of the transformer. The third stage of operation is the comparing stage, where the sensed values are compared by the controller. In the final stage of operation, called the driving stage, the controller drives the power switch to create a regulated voltage output.

The PWM control method is a type of power supply control method which is the most commonly used method of controlling power supplies. It is a type of switched-mode power supply (SMPS) control using a power transistor to switch the supply on and off according to the input voltage in response to an electronic signal. The signal contains the information on the amount of power needed to be supplied to the load. The input voltage is compared with a reference signal; if the input voltage is higher than the reference signal, then the power switch is turned off and no power is supplied. On the other hand, if the voltage is lower than the reference signal, then the power switch is turned on and power is supplied.
