The LTC3775EMSE#PBF is an integrated high-performance, high-frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) controller which is specifically designed to help deliver efficient, low-EMI DC/DC switching regulation. This integrated controller can deliver up to 5A of output current over an input voltage range of 6V–48V. Working Principle of LTC3775EMSE#PBF

The LTC3775EMSE#PBF is a current-mode based PWM controller with a gate driver stage. It uses the current mode approach to regulation and uses the inductor on-time to set the output voltage. The operating frequency of the PWM controller is set by a single resistor, RT, connected between the RT pin and ground.

The PWM controller employs a high-side current-sense amplifier and low-side current-sense amplifier to sense the current in both, the high-side and the low side FETs. The assumption is that the FETs have equal RDS(ON) values when properly matched. If the RDS(ON) values are not matched, the current sense amplifiers will not work accurately.

The PWM controller is equipped with an over-current protection circuit. This protects the system from potential over-current conditions caused by the inductor output current exceeding the value of the set current limit. In addition, the PWM controller contains protections against shorted outputs and open-loop operation.

Finally, the LTC3775EMSE#PBF timing and control functions can be easily adjusted via external passive elements. These timing and control functions include the adjustable switch frequency, soft-start, output voltage OVP, over-temperature protection and extended ramp current control.
