LTC3822EDD-1 Application Field and Working Principle
The LTC3822EDD-1 is a current-mode dc-to-dc converter specifically designed for use as a synchronous, wide input range, high efficiency step-down controller. Working Principle of LTC3822EDD-1
The LTC3822EDD-1 is a current-mode dc-to-dc converter, which is an integrated synchronous buck regulator with voltage monitoring system and high frequency PWM controller, allowing it to generate a steady and huge output current. This converter is formed of two main stages, which are the control and the power stage. The control stage is constructed by the voltage monitoring system, which includes a voltage supervisor, a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator and power alarms. The power stage includes MOSFET switches and passive components, such as inductors, capacitors and resistors, that are responsible for the power regulation.
When the LTC3822EDD-1 receives a signal from the voltage monitoring system, the PWM controller is triggered, the on time of the MOSFET switches are modulated, the output voltage is accurately regulated to the output voltage set by the user, and the device starts to work. The high frequency oscillator and the dead-time control circuit allow for an accurate output voltage without the need for phase-lock loops or frequency synchronization.
The LTC3822EDD-1 also incorporates over-current protection, as well as thermal protection. It also offers an adjustable Soft-Start and programmable under voltage protection that can be enabled by a simple resistor divider.
