The Linear Technology Corporation LTC3824IMSE#TRPBF is a current mode non-synchronous PWM step-down DC-DC switching controller. This device offers a current mode architecture for better loop response over voltage mode controllers and includes a pre-biased/ready-to-use PFM mode with undervoltage lockout. It is also specifically designed for multi-output point of load (POL) applications, offering soft-start and tracking with an adjustable output soft-start rate of up to 150ms, load source/sink tracking with up to 6A of load current and overcurrent protection. Device Architecture

The LTC3824IMSE#TRPBF is based on a current-mode architecture, allowing it to respond quickly to changing loads and provide better overall regulation. Additionally, the device features an integrated oscillator with a 50ms switching period, providing an easy to use adjustable frequency range of 300kHz to 1.2MHz.The pre-biased/ready-to-use PFM mode found in this device offers an additional benefit. With undervoltage lockouts (UVLO) protection, it will automatically switch to a low-loss pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode when the input voltage is below the UVLO threshold, minimizing the current consumption of the controller.

Protection Features

The LTC3824IMSE#TRPBF offers several advanced protections, including over-temperature protection (OTP), over-voltage protection (OVP) and an overcurrent protection (OCP) circuit. The OTP will shut down the controller to protect against excessive temperatures, while an adjustable time delay allows the user to set the maximum amount of time the device can be in an over-temperature condition.An adjustable OVP circuit will protect the device and downstream circuitry from input voltage faults, while an adjustable OCP circuit provides fault protection at the output. Additionally, a current-limit circuit helps prevent output fault conditions, while an adjustable soft-start circuit allows the user to set the output soft-start rate up to 150ms.
