The LTC3863MPDE#PBF is a PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Controllers employed for precise regulation of a wide range of outputs including higher output current, higher voltage and greater power levels. It is versatile and provides an isolated, constant voltage output with excellent line and load regulation characteristics. The LTC3863MPDE#PBF operates at a wide input voltage range and is designed to support up to 5A of total load current.

The LTC3863MPDE#PBF has several features which contribute to its robust performance in an application field. A high voltage input range enables applications with a wide range of input voltages when either unipolar or bipolar supplies are used. Separate high and low-side floating gate drivers provide the flexibility to operate in a wide range of high voltage and low voltage environments. The LTC3863MPDE#PBF works based on the principle of “Average Current Mode Control”. Under this controlling mode, the peak current of each switching cycle is set by an internal current limit threshold. This peak current is proportional to the input voltage. The output current amplitude is then shaped by pulse-width-modulating the switch on/off times according to the peak current. To ensure high accuracy, the peak current of each cycle is limited by three voltage detectors in the current sense loop. In addition, the peak current accuracy is further substantiated by a temperature compensation.

The LTC3863MPDE#PBF provide internal soft-start, which reduces both input in-rush current and output overshoot. An undervoltage lockout is provided to prevent the switching on of the output stage at a low voltage. A programmable frequency clamp allows the frequency operation to be limited over certain voltage range and load conditions.

The LTC3863MPDE#PBF has tight load and line regulation characteristics over its wide input and output operating range. It can regulate multiple outputs in parallel up to 5A total without external components and without sensing the total current. Other features include variable frequency operation, programmable frequency foldback, as well as synchronization which allows the LTC3863MPDE#PBF to be synchronized to an external clock.
