Working Principle
The LTC4242IUHF#TRPBF is a versatile Hot Swap controller that helps to manage difficult power up and power down conditions when adding or removing or replacing power supplies to a system. The controller includes an internal high-side driver that senses the external supply voltage, drives a power control component, such as an N-channel MOSFET, and then continuously monitors inrush and over-current conditions during power-up and power-down. During operation, the hot-swap device acts as an analog comparator that constantly monitors the voltage of the external supply. When the voltage in the external power supply exceeds the setpoint of the controller, the controller will enable the internal high-side driver and enable the powered component to operate. When the voltage of the external supply drops below the setpoint, the controller will disable the internal high-side driver and shutoff the powered component.
The LTC4242IUHF#TRPBF also features a full-featured overcurrent detect and control. This feature prevents damage resulting from current surges. The device also features an adjustable inrush current limit on startup, as well as an output voltage for monitoring the device and other external components in the system.
