In operation, the device compares the voltage on its OUT terminal to atrimmed reference voltage, typically 1.235V. If the OUT voltage drops below thereference, the Charge Pump turns ON, increasing the OUT voltage. Conversely, ifthe voltage on the OUT terminal is greater than the reference, the Charge Pumpturns OFF, allowing the OUT terminal to discharge.
In order to keep the charge pump shut-off voltage at the correct level, a feedback loop is used to monitor the OUT terminal. This is done by connecting the OUT terminal to an Error Amp, which compares the OUT voltage with a reference voltage. If the OUT voltage is higher than the reference, the Error Amp shutdowns the Charge Pump. By using this method, the Charge Pump can maintain the correct OUT terminal voltage.
