The LTC4417CGN#PBF is a family of Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs) with low side ideal diode functions and overcurrent protection controllers. They are designed to replace existing diode-OR (DOR) circuits with improved efficiency and flexibility.
With LTC4417CGN#PBF, engineers can reduce cost and complexity by eliminating the need for separate diodes, enabling higher system efficiency and higher power handling capability. Its low side ideal diode mode and overcurrent protection controllers allow for more control over power flow and better control of system temperatures.

The LTC4417CGN#PBF is most often used in automotive applications such as engine systems, charging systems and HVAC systems. Working Principle:
When the voltage applied to the input terminals of the LTC4417CGN#PBF is higher than the reverse polarity protection lower threshold, the ideal diode element conducts, allowing current to flow. When the voltage applied to the input terminals is lower than the reverse polarity protection lower threshold, the overcurrent protection controller regulates the current, protecting the circuit from overcurrent events.
The overcurrent protection controller is designed with three modes - Passive, Manual and Auto Soft-Start. When the Passive mode is selected, the overcurrent protection controller monitors the current, and triggers the circuit protection feature when the current exceeds the programmed threshold. In the Manual mode, the overcurrent level is manually set by the user to a specific value. In the Auto Soft-Start mode, the protection level increases gradually until it reaches the predetermined protection level.
The overcurrent protection controller is further protected against overvoltage. When the voltage at the input terminal exceeds the overvoltage protection upper threshold, the internal circuits disengage, protecting the LTC4417CGN#PBF from short circuit and overvoltage events.
The LTC4417CGN#PBF also features built-in thermal shutdown, with a preset shutdown temperature of 175˚C. If the temperature exceeds this value, the circuit shuts down and prevents further operation until the temperature is reduced to a safe level. The LTC4417CGN#PBF also features a Low Temperature Shutdown feature which allows the device to operate at temperatures as low as -55˚C.
The LTC4417CGN#PBF also includes reverse current protection, which prevents current from flowing in the wrong direction. The internal circuits automatically prevent any current flow in the reverse direction, helping to maintain efficiency and protect against unexpected events.
