The LV8405V-TLM-E is a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) LED driver with an embedded Micro Controller Unit (MCU). It employs a 16-bit TFT-LCD timing controller that is configured with a range of control features, such as strobing, PWM dimming and temperature compensation. The LV8405V-TLM-E has an integrated power stage consisting of a FET for power switch control and can provide a step up voltage to the LED panels through its pulse transformer or buck regulator. This power stage allows for up to 30V of LED forward voltage and up to 12W of drive power with a 10V input.
The LV8405V-TLM-E operates in a synchronous rectification mode with buck/boost technology, providing a constant current regulation by controlling the amount of power to the LED panels consistently regardless of input voltage variations. It is designed to protect the LEDs and their associated controller, extending the life of the panel and providing better overall performance. This integrated system has two main advantages, increased efficiency and reduced external components.
The LV8405V-TLM-E application field consists of small- to medium-sized LCD displays, which can be used for various types of portable equipment such as tablets, notebooks, handhelds and digital cameras. The LV8405V-TLM-E can be used for stepping up the voltage of the backlight LED and provide a constant current regulation for the LED panel. It is also ideal for driving STN and TFT LCD displays, providing a wide range of compatible display sizes from 2.4” up to 10.4”.
The working principles behind the LV8405V-TLM-E are based on principles of pulse-width modulation (PWM). This means that an electronic pulse is sent to the LED panel, with the first step being a voltage conversion/regulation. The voltage adjustment is done through the two buck/boost stages, while the timings are controlled by the embedded MCU. The second step consists of a power foldback, meaning that the drive power to the LED panel is gradually decreased in order to maintain a constant current level.
The LV8405V-TLM-E also supports LED strobing technology, which reduces the LED brightness to maximize power savings. Other features include temperature compensation and LED flickering reduction, wherein the LED current is adjusted according to the ambient temperature and is compensated for any potential LED flicker. Finally, the LV8405V-TLM-E can be used in small- to medium-sized LCD designs, providing a cost-effective and reliable solution for driving LED panels.
