LX1553CD is a monolithic, continuous-mode, current-diverting topology, DC/DC switching controller from Maxim Integrated which is a type of voltage regulator. It is used in applications as diverse as portable applications, mono amplifiers, and instrumentation applications. This regulator is especially suitable in applications with tight size constraints. LX1553CD operates in the continuous mode and can input DC or AC voltage sources and can output adjustable voltage and current controlled by the external components.
The LX1553CD is a non-switching current controller that operates in continuous mode. It is designed to drive, regulate and monitor power supplies with fixed-voltage, adjustable-voltage and adjustable-current requirements. This chip is operable in a wide VIN range and is suitable for high-voltage applications up to 500 volts. The self-biased current mode technique reduces component count and the switching frequency can be reduced to lower power consumption.
When the LX1553CD voltage regulator is used, the output voltage is determined by external components and control circuitry. The feedback voltage is monitored by the current-diverting topology and the current is regulated accordingly. The current then flows from the drain of the switch FET, through a sense resistor, and then to the output voltage. The sense resistor then monitors the current and the output voltage is regulated based on the current. The built-in current limit circuitry provides maximum current protection and the voltage is monitored by the fast current-source-driven feedback circuit.
The DC/DC switching controller uses the Charge Pump Design (CPD) architecture that provides high efficiency, low component count, fast transient response and superior EMI/EMC performance. The output voltage is derived from the input voltage and can be adjusted from 0.9V to 4.5V in 0.1V increments making it ideal for applications that require accuracy and rail-to-rail output. The chip also provides low noise, low ripple, and low power dissipation, making it suitable for operating in harsh environments.
LX1553CD is designed to operate at temperatures up to 105°C and is also radiation hardened up to 75k rads. It is available in a wide variety of package types and comes with proven ESD robustness protection and low leakage current. It is available in a plastic 2x2mm QFN package in the Tsepak package and is also RoHS compliant.
The LX1553CD offers a low current consumption, high switching frequency and allows the user to control the output voltage and current with a variety of external components.
