Working Principle
The LYT1603D is a buck-boost LED driver with a wide input voltage range, up to 35V. The presence of two strings of LEDs with adjustable current output enables the design to be optimized for high power efficiency. The primary flow of electricity is from the input voltage, through the output filter, to the LEDs in series. The adjustable current regulator can be used to set the output current to the desired level, which subsequently determines the final output voltage.
Besides the adjustable current regulator, the LYT1603D consists of an output control die, a switching regulator, control circuits, an internal oscillator, and an output filter for the voltage regulation. The output control die consists of error amplifiers, voltage reference, and logic control circuits to complete the regulation of the output. The switching regulator is powered by the oscillator. The control circuits convert the current command of the error amplifier into drive signal for the switching regulator. The output filter smoothes out the output voltage.
The adjustable current regulator inside the IC is the main control of the device. It contains an error amplifier with gain and an adjustable current register. The output current of the device is set by the current register. The output current will start to increase when the control voltage (VCTRL) is applied to the current register. The output current will stop increasing when the error amplifier detects that the output voltage (VOUT) is equal to the reference voltage (VREF). The current register can be controlled through an external resistor network to set the output current.
