M15KP70CAE3 combines a pair of back to back Zener diodes and a transient voltage clamping element. This device can be adapted to suit many applications, including consumer electronics, industrial equipment, automotive equipment, and other application where an effective surge solution is needed.Working Principle of M15KP70CAE3
M15KP70CAE3 is a combination of a pair of back-to-back Zener diodes and a transient voltage clamping element. In normal conditions, the two Zener diodes have no voltage differential and the device is in the off-state. The transient voltage clamping element is also non-conducting. When a voltage surge event occurs, the two Zener diodes become forwardly biased, and they begin conducting current, allowing a surge current of up to 70A to flow. The voltage differential across the second pair of Zener diodes becomes large enough to activate the transient voltage clamping element, which functions as a current limiting resistor and generates an output voltage that has a very steep voltage-current characteristic.
The output voltage of the M15KP70CAE3 will depend on the intensity of the surge event, the amount of current that flows, and the resistive impedance of the circuit. For any given voltage surge, the output voltage will be limited to a level that is slightly greater than the voltage differential across the two Zener diodes at the moment of surge.
