M2S101-3XX application field and working principle
M2S101-3XX products are tailor-made solutions covering a wide range of applications including the automotive, medical and industrial fields. This range offers high AC ripple rejection and high efficiency and can also be used in combination with various controllers. It quite flexibly suits an application ranges from 12W to 600W.
The M2S101-3XX is a two-stage regulator that works by combining a primary and a secondary controller in one device. The primary controller supplies higher current output with a lower ripple voltage, and the secondary controller supplies the regulative reference voltage for the primary controller. The output is isolated from the input by an opto-coupler, while the voltage regulator utilizes both linear and switching control technology.
The M2S101-3XX features a very low dropout voltage to give high output current at low input voltages. These devices are built with two types of output switching and control technology. The first is the Linear regulator which keeps the dropout voltage low by monitoring the input voltage and cutting it off when it drops too low. The second is a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) regulator which makes use of varying pulse widths for controlling the output voltage. PWM has the advantage of providing a higher output current while minimizing power dissipation.
The output voltage is regulated by a combination of linear and non-linear control techniques to obtain the desired output current and ripple voltage. The M2S101-3XX features a high current limit circuit which is designed to limit the maximum output current. This prevents damage to the load since a high current draw can cause the regulator to heat up and become unstable.
The M2S101-3XX features automatic boot-up circuitry which reduces the inrush current during power-up and prevents the output voltage from overshooting due to the large surge current. A switched bypass circuit is included to increase the current limit when needed. The device is also capable of power sequencing which limits the inrush current for each power supply level.
The device is capable of obtaining high accuracy for both AC and DC output currents.
