Balun: MABACT0063 Application Field and Working Principle
Baluns are electronic devices designed to transform electric circuits between different fundamental forms. The acronym BALUN stands for “balanced to unbalanced”. This refers to the transformation of signals, which are typically found in antennas and other radio-related components, from a balanced impedance form to an unbalanced impedance form, or vice versa. The term “balun” is also used to refer to a group of electronic components used for that same purpose.
The MABACT0063 is a balun specifically designed for converting the coaxial cable signals to a balanced, or differential, signal. This is necessary in many applications, as some devices operate with one kind of signal, while others require the opposite. The working principle of the MABACT0063 depends on the basic concept of the transposition of the signal from balanced to unbalanced. The two inductive coils work together to produce a varying voltage output that is affected by the input signal and the difference in the coil lengths. This differential voltage is then amplified before being output from the “aux-out” port. The amplitude of this amplified signal is equivalent to the amplitude of the original signal, but the phase of the output signal is shifted to opposite of the signal received at the “coax-in” port.
