Working PrincipleThe MASMBJ14CAE3 is an unidirectional diode that is designed to reduce the effect of high voltage transients. The diode is designed to protect electronic circuits from damage due to electrostatic discharge (ESD), induced surges, or inductive loads.The TVS diode works by providing a low impedance path for transients to be dissipated quickly, while avoiding damage to the output component. This is done by using the breakdown voltage (also known as clamping voltage) of the diode, which is the maximum voltage that the diode can safely conduct. In normal operation, the diode sits idly, maintaining a very low reverse leakage current. When a transient voltage causes the voltage across the diode to exceed the breakdown voltage, the diode quickly conducts enough current to bring the voltage back to the breakdown voltage. Once the voltage has been clamped, the diode will return to its low-leakage state.High-clamping voltage is essential for effective transient protection, and the MASMBJ14CE3 has a peak pulse power rating of 600 W (8/20 µs) and a breakdown voltage rating of 15-19 V. This means that the diode can reliably protect sensitive electronic components from voltage transients up to 19 V.
