TVS – Diodes are used to protect circuits from high surge voltages, and the MASMBJ30CAE3 is one of the latest additions to this range of devices. It is designed for applications where up to 30A of peak surge current are expected, such as automotive electronics, industrial motor controllers, home appliances, and other similar applications. The MASMBJ30CAE3 has two pins – Cathode and Anode. The Cathode pin should be connected to the ground of the circuit while the Anode is connected to the power supply. It should be placed across the two power supply terminals, as close as possible to the power circuit that is to be protected. The design also includes a low-impedance Cathode-to-Anode insertion path and a high-impedance Anode-to-Cathode current flow path.The working principle of the MASMBJ30CAE3 is based on its ability to absorb transient surge voltages. When a surge voltage is applied across the anode and cathode pins, the two paths – low-impedance insert and high-impedance current flow paths – it will start to relay the current. As the current enters one of the low-impedance paths, the voltage across it will also drop and the current will be absorbed by the MASMBJ30CAE3. This process repeats and the MASMBJ30CAE3 will absorb the current in a gradual fashion without causing any damage to the system.Apart from absorbing the surge voltage, the MASMBJ30CAE3 also has the ability to dissipate the absorbed power, allowing for a safe release of the stored energy. This is achieved by using a reverse recovery diode, which limits the current’s rise time. It also reduces the amount of reverse recovery charge, thus protecting the circuit from overvoltage.The MASMBJ30CAE3 has many other features that make it an ideal choice for protection against transient voltage and surge events. It features a low operating voltage, a low stand-by current, and a low on-state voltage that allows it to handle high levels of current with minimal loss. Additionally, the device is also RoHS-compliant, which makes it suitable for use in applications where environmental protection is a must.
