A TVS - diode is a Transient Voltage Suppressor diode, a voltage-dependent, unidirectional, solid state device used to protect electrical circuits from overvoltage transients. In particular, TVS - diodes are used to protect devices and circuits from overvoltage damage caused by lightning, electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electrical power transient events. They also provide immunity from system noise such as switching transients and other forms of interference and they can supplement or replace common fuse-type overvoltage protection.
