MAX20002DATPB/VY+T (PDF) is a compact step-down switching regulator for high-efficiency, low-noise power conversion. Combining an efficient synchronous buck controller, a power convergence network, power switches, and compensation into a single monolithic device, the MAX20002DATPB/VY+T provides a simple, clean and integrated solution. The device has an operating input voltage range of 3.6V to 35V and supports up to 2A of output current with an adjustable output voltage range of 0.6V to 28V. Operating frequency is programmed in 100kHz steps with a range of 400 kHz to 1.2 MHz.
The MAX20002DATPB/VY+T offers a variety of features including spread spectrum mode for improved EMI performance, low-voltage shutdown, over-current protection, under-voltage lockout, an internal soft-start, and external synchronization. Communication is also provided, allowing for analog programming of the output voltage, soft-start, and pulse-by-pulse current limit.

Working Principle:
The MAX20002DATPB/VY+T controller and power switch are based on a synchronous buck topology. The controller employs a variable frequency current mode architecture with an operating frequency range of 400 kHz to 1.2 MHz, variable in 100 kHz steps. During each cycle, the control loop monitors the output voltage and adjusts the duty cycle to maintain output regulation.
The MAX 20002DATPB/VY+T power switch consists of N-Channel MOSFETs. When the enable signal is high, the control loop begins to operate and the internal power MOSFETs are driven to regulate the output voltage. When the enable signal is low, the internal MOSFETs are turned off and the output voltage is disabled.
In addition, the device includes a power convergence network that optimizes power MOSFET switching times thus reducing input and output ripple voltage. The power MOSFETs are also protected from conducting back-EMF voltages by an automatic clamping circuit.
The device supports external synchronization of the switching frequency and analog programming of the output voltage. It can also provide pulse-by-pulse current limit protection, enabling fast over-current protection without excessive power dissipation.
