MAX211CDB is an 8-bit line driver, receiver, and transceiver for digital data communications on multipoint bus cable. This device allows bidirectional transmission of data over a single communications bus or line. The device is especially useful in applications that require point-to-point communications between computers or between computers and peripheral devices.
The MAX211CDB combines an 8-bit line driver, a 8-bit differential line receiver, and an 8-bit transceiver. The line driver converts 8-bit parallel data into 8-bit differential outputs, while the line receiver converts 8-bit differential inputs into 8-bit parallel data. The transceiver provides level shifting and voltage inverting of the data and control signals.
The MAX211CDB features three basic operating modes: Data Transmit, Data Receive, and Hi-Z (high impedance) Data Transmit. In the Data Receive mode, data is input to the line driver through the 8-bit parallel output port. In the Data Transmit mode, data is output to the line receiver through the 8-bit differential input port.
