The MAX20021ATIC/V+T is a high efficiency, low cost switch-mode buck regulator, that has been developed with an integrated high-side VOUT/VIN buck controller and an integrated low-side P-channel MOSFET, as well as a voltage reference and an external sensing resistor. This regulator is designed to integrate the best functions of a controller-based buck solution, while eliminating the need for an external MOSFET.
This buck regulator is a current mode, step-down device, that is capable of providing up to 4A adjustable output current, with current limit and adjustable output voltage range of 0.7V to VIN. The device has very fast transient response due to its internal compensated loop and is also able to support synchronous rectification, spread spectrum and frequency hopping.
The working principle of the MAX20021ATIC/V+T DC-DC switching regulator is based on the controller and the MOSFET supplying the output current on a peak current limit basis. When the output current demand reaches the peak current limit, the MOSFET turns-off and the current is sourced from the offset voltage. The MOSFET is then turned-on based on the set current limit and when the output current limit is reached, the MOSFET is shut-off again to keep the current within the desired range. Furthermore, it also has a line-sense feature which monitors the voltage across the current sense resistor and shuts-off the MOSFET when it crosses above the maximum current limit.
The MAX20021ATIC/V+T is an ideal solution for applications that require a high efficiency and small form factor DC/DC buck-regulator, such as automotive power electronics, telecommunication systems, consumer electronics, industrial control and medical equipment. The device offers a wide input voltage range from 6V to 36V and an adjustable output voltage range from 0.7V to 36V.
