MAX20075ATCA/V+ Application Field and Working Principle
MAX20075ATCA/V+ is a highly integrated synchronous switching regulator, combining a powerful FET driver, high-current MOSFETs, current sense, voltage reference, and power loop compensation, capable of delivering up to 12A of continuous output current in an ultra-compact package. It is used in a wide variety of PMIC, Voltage regulator and DC-DC switching regulator applications, delivering precisely regulated outputs from a wide output range.

The MAX20075ATCA/V+ is designed for a wide range of applications, from high-frequency point-of-load (POL) applications to automotive and industrial applications, providing high current and high voltage operation with a small footprint.
Working principle
The MAX20075ATCA/V+ employs an advanced switch-mode topology providing superior transient response, excellent efficiency and excellent line and load regulation. The device utilizes a peak-current-mode control architecture, which allows the user to program the switching frequency, and range from 150kHz to 1MHz. A single internal compensation network provides loop stability over a wide range of operating conditions.
The MAX20075ATCA/V+ regulator has three operating phases: start-up, step-down and shutdown. During the start-up phase, the voltage reference charges the external decoupling capacitor. During the step-down phase, the voltage reference is compared with the output voltage, and the error signal is amplified and applied to the gate driver. The gate driver, in turn, turns on MOSFETs depending on the type of FETs used, to control the output voltage. Finally, in the shutdown phase, the gate is pulled low, turning off the FETs. The decoupling capacitor discharges, and the loop is reset.
The MAX20075ATCA/V+\'s current sense provides a maximum current limit with exact current foldback. The current sense monitors the inductor current by sensing the On-Time of the FETs and then comparing it with the reference. If the current goes over the programmed limit, the current limit circuit switches an internal normal FET off, limiting the current.
The MAX20075ATCA/V+ is a highly efficient, high-power buck regulator that can be employed for a variety of power management applications. Its high efficiency, small footprint, easy-to-use synchronous solution, and advanced switch-mode topology make it an ideal solution for POL applications and a wide variety of other power management applications.
