The MAX208CDW is a low-power, full-duplex, support-flow-control device that operates as a data transmission link between a standard RS-232-compatible peripheral and a host/accelerator system. The device is suitable for applications such as mechanical equipments, medical equipment, factory automation systems, remote controls, data terminals, instruments and measuring systems.

The MAX208CDW provides a wide range of features designed to suit a variety of interface applications, such as 2-wire or 4-wire half duplex/full duplex serial data transmission with support for flow control.
