MAX232EESE+ is a highly integrated interface incorporated IC comprised of an converter driver, a charge pump, and an interface receiver. The MAX232EESE+ interface was designed to provide a single chip solution to the low-voltage interface needs of the most popular microprocessor systems.Application Field
The MAX232EESE+ has a variety of applications related to serial communication, such as PC-to-MS/ISA bus, serial signalling, and power voltage conversions. When used for PC-to-MS/ISA bus, it converts signals from RS-232/RS-422/V.24 interface levels (0 to +5V) to logic levels (0 to +5V) compatible with the majority of microprocessors and logic circuits. The MAX 232EESE+ is ideal for giving serial communication power when an external power source is unavailable, or level conversions are needed. The device will function between a 0V and +5V range. It offers an additional feature of a low-power standby mode, enabling low-power designs and efficient power management.It can be used in many communication interface related products. It is commonly used in serial port connectors and communication cards of RS232 interface, cellular phones, modems, optical fibre communication modules, etc. In addition, it is used in industrial control and healthcare applications as it can offer optimum signal integrity.Working Principle
The MAX232EESE+ consists of three main parts. The converter driver is responsible for translating the RS-232 or RS-422/V.24 interface levels (0-5V) to logic levels (0-5V) that is compatible with microprocessor systems. The charge pump, which is a built in DC/DC converter, is responsible for converting the input voltage from +9V to +5V up to a current of up to 600mA. Finally, the interface receiver is responsible for translating the RS-232/RS-422/V.24 interface signals (0-5V) into logic levels compatible with microprocessor systems.The converter driver takes in two differential line signals (TXD and RTS) which is transmitted and received through the two peripheral ports. The charge pump then takes the two differential line signals and transforms them into logic levels (0-5V) that is compatible with microprocessor systems. The interface receiver then takes the logic levels and converts it back into RS-232/RS-422/V.24 signals (0-5V).Conclusion
