The MAX237ENG+ is a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI)-to-Serial Data Bus (RS-232) line driver/receiver with an integrated charge pump. It contains one line driver, one line receiver, and an integrated charge pump circuit to generate +5 V and -5 V supply voltages from a single +3 V to +5.5 V supply. By performing the same level conversions as the MAX232 and MAX232A, the MAX237ENG+ is beneficial when voltage level-shifting is necessary on a noisy/corrupted bus.

Working Principle

The outputs of the charge pump are fed to the line driver and line receiver, providing the necessary levels for RS-232 communications.
