The MAX2422EAI+T is a low-cost, single transceiver for RS-232/V.24EIA-232-F data communication applications. The MAX2422EAI+T uses a single dual charge-pump power supply operating at 3.3 V to fully support the RS-232 protocol. The MAX2422EAI+T is designed to meet the electrical specifications of V.24EIA-232-F with a minimum of external components.
The MAX2422EAI+T has an integrated transmitter and receiver jumpers, allowing the parts to operate in either a half-duplex or full-duplex configuration. In a half-duplex configuration, the transmit and receive data lines can be directly connected to the MAX2422EAI+T. Working Principle

A half-duplex configuration requires a single line driver and the MAX2422EAI+T is connected to the line driver on the transmit and receive lines. A full-duplex configuration requires two line drivers, one to drive the transmit line and the other to drive the receive line.
The MAX2422EAI+T incorporates a hysteretic comparator, a transconductance amplifier, and two current-controlled oscillators, to monitor and regulate the output current of the charge-pump power supply. This power source provides up to 12.5V to the pins, which meet the voltage specifications for the EIA-232-F standard. The MAX2422EAI+T also has an integrated thermal shutdown feature, which is activated when the temperature of the part exceeds a certain threshold.
The MAX2422EAI+T is designed with a precision ESD protection circuit to protect I/O pins and/or devices connected to it.
