When both signals are sent to the mixer, they pass through a switch. Then, within the same memory cell, the two signals are multiplied. This produces an output signal that includes the sum and difference frequencies.
The RF signal is sent through the MAX2682EUT-T to form the difference frequency, while the IF signal is sent through to the output. The local oscillator signal is then used to form the sum frequency which is sent to the output. This allows the mixer to convert the IF signal to an RF signal.
