MAX3222EUP/V+ is an advanced, highly integrated, single-chip, full-duplex RS-232 line transceiver, widely applied in telecommunications and other data communication applications. Working Principle

At the heart of the MAX3222EUP/V+ is a pair of differential line drivers and receivers operating in unison. The receiver then performs the opposite function, transforming differential signals back to single-ended signals. The drivers and receivers are designed to reduce the amount of power required, allowing the IC to run with supply voltages as low as 3 Volts or below.

The EXSTOP, RECEIVE and TRANSMIT pins offer control and feedback signals. The EXSTOP, or extendable stop control, allows the system to extend the stop bit in order to keep the data transmission line flushed of noise. Additionally, the RECEIVE pin will indicate to the system that data has been received. Finally, the TRANSMIT pin will indicate that the system can begin to transmit data out on the line.

MAX3222EUP/V+ is extremely capable and efficient, integrating both RS-232 transceivers and a full-duplex, frame-based protocol into one simple integrated circuit.
