In addition to providing the adjustable current and voltage to the laser diode, the PMIC also offers a diode fault protection feature. This prevents the PMIC’s output voltage from exceeding a predetermined threshold and subsequently damaging the laser diode. The PMIC can also be enabled to detect open-load conditions, which would indicate a failure of the laser diode.
