The MAX3678UTN+ is a high-performance, low-phase-noise clock generator/synthesizer designed for use in a wide variety of high-frequency applications. The device is an integrated three-in-one PLL with a frequency synthesizer, voltage-control oscillator (VCO), and programmable divider designed for applications requiring low-jitter clock sources. Utilizing its on-chip PLL, the device can generate a variety of frequencies up to 6.25GHz from a wide range of input frequencies. The device provides ultra-low-jitter outputs and noise profiles, enabling a wide variety of high-speed applications at a fraction of the cost of other solutions.

The MAX3678UTN+ works by first using its VCO to convert the incoming signal into an adjustable voltage-controlled frequency based on the input frequency supplied. Once this frequency processing is complete, it then uses the programmable divider inside the PLL to divide the frequency output by the selected divider value. This results in the desired output frequency that is then fed to the output buffer which provides the final output signal. The device can be configured to generate 120 different output frequencies, with a wide variety of clock formats, jitter performance, and low-noise characteristics.
