The MAX40088AUT+T is a differential current sensing amplifier that uses a Difference Amplifier with a Third-Degree Multiply Integral (DTI) topology, which performs the necessary gain basing with temperature compensation. The differential inputs are connected to two pins labeled I+, I-, with a common ground (usually connected to the output of the sensing resistor – VOUT). The reference voltage (VREF) must be set between these two pins. Once set the amplifier automatically adjusts its gain based on the reference voltage. By changing the reference voltage, the amplifier is capable of measuring a wide range of current levels.

The amplifier has an output stage with a rail-to-rail output architecture. The output stage also includes an offset compensation circuit to ensure that the output is returned to the mid-rail value when the amplifier stops processing any signal.
