Functional Block Diagram and Working Principle

The MAX4075ADESA+ has a single low-power operational amplifier and additional features such as rail-to-rail input/output and wide supply voltage range. As shown in Figure 1, the MAX4075ADESA+ consists of three parts: the amplifier and two building blocks.

Input Stage: The input stage consists of four devices. The first is the input differential pair, which consists of two high-voltage devices M1a and M1b with their respective input pins (grounded). The differential pair works as a large, scaled current mirror, allowing a wide range of input voltages, including rail-to-rail. The next stage consists of two cascode transistors, M2 and M3, which act as voltage sources, providing high output impedance. The third stage, which is optional, includes two resistors, R1 and R2, and a third transistor, M4. This stage is used to adjust the input offset voltage, providing an adjustment range of about ±30 μV. The fourth stage is the comparison network, comprised of two resistors, R3 and R4, and two transistors, M5 and M6. This stage provides a feedback loop between the input and output of the amplifier.

Output Stage: The output stage of the MAX4075ADESA+ is a high-voltage current-to-voltage amplifier (CVA). The CVA is a fully differential amplifier that converts the input differential current into an output voltage. The voltage output of the CVA is then converted to a single-ended voltage by an output amplifier, consisting of transistors M7, M8, and M9. The output amplifier is designed to drive capacitive loads up to 200 pF. The output stage features rail-to-rail output capability and can provide a voltage gain of up to 100 dB (1000 : 1).
