Interface - Analog Switches - Special Purpose

The MAX4358ECE+ is a special purpose analog switch solution boasting the lowest power consumption in its class. It is an ideal choice for use in portable electronics where battery life must still be achieved. Developed by Maxim Integrated Products, Inc., these devices offer enhanced ESD protection, low on-resistance switching, a wide range of supply voltages and stable performance under heavy capacitive loads. This specialized solution can make all the difference in demanding applications where switching speed, low dissipation and reliable performance are all important.

The MAX4358ECE+ is a monolithic, low voltage, single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) switch that utilizes CMOS technology. It operates from a supply voltage of 2.7 V to 5.25 V and features a high resistance analog signal path rated for switch currents up to 1.2 mA. On-resistance is rated up to 140 mOhms, and is relatively unaffected by supply voltage changes, temperature, and capacitive loading. Crosstalk performance is excellent, with typical values as low as -90 dB between the 1 kHz and 10 kHz frequencies.

These devices offer excellent protection against ESD events of up to ± 3000 V. This adds an additional layer of protection to sensitive control circuitry, which can be especially helpful when using in harsh, portable operating environments. ESD is especially problematic in battery-powered applications where this protection is critical.

The MAX4358ECE+ features low charge injection to prevent charge injection coupled noise from being generated. This makes it suitable for use in any kind of audio application, allowing for balanced and unbalanced audio signals to be switched with minimum distortion. The low power dissipation ensures that the device operates reliably over a wide range of temperature, while still providing good performance. These devices are available in 8-pin SOIC, TQFN and µMAX packages.

The architecture of the MAX4358ECE+ switch also allows for the use of integrated voltage translation. This feature provides improved performance in applications that require level shifting between low-voltage and high-voltage logic levels. The integrated voltage translation allows for up to 2 SIMs for an effective switching range of 5.3 V to the 3.3 V or 1.8 V logic levels, thus enabling a wide range of operating voltages.

In terms of operation, the MAX4358ECE+ switch utilizes single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) architecture. This design enables excellent performance in applications where voltage and/or current isolation is required. The SPDT architecture eliminates the need for two, two-pole switches and eliminates the need for additional isolation components. This enables a more efficient implementation in battery-powered applications.

The MAX4358ECE+ is ideal for use in consumer, portable, automotive, and industrial applications where ultra-low power, good performance over a wide range of operating conditions, and reliable isolation of analog signals are all important factors. It is also suitable for use as an audio switch in applications such as mixer, line selector and audio amplifier applications.
