Interface - Analog Switches - Special Purpose technology is used to control the flow of analog and digital signals between circuits, such as between an input and output or between two circuits in an integrated circuit. The MAX4548EAX is an example of this type of circuitry. It is a high performance, low power, dual-channel analog multiplexer/demultiplexer switch. It is designed to operate from a single +3V to +5.5V supply and features wide operating frequency range (up to 200MHz), low signal distortion and low power consumption.
The MAX4548EAX is commonly used in signal routing applications, such as camera based image processing, optical communications, digital video signals and other signal processing applications. The MAX4548EAX works in two modes, ANALOG and DIGITAL. In the ANALOG mode, the device switches two analog signals between two or four corresponding outputs. In the DIGITAL mode, the device switches two digital signals between two or four corresponding outputs. Both modes provide exceptional signal integrity and low signal distortion.
The MAX4548EAX provides flexibility as it can be configured for different applications. It has a selectable single/dual-channel option and selectable configuration registers. The single-channel option enables the device to switch one analog signal or one digital signal only. The dual-channel option enables the device to switch two analog signals or two digital signals. The configuration registers provide additional flexibility in selecting the performance configuration, voltage range and on-resistance of the device.
The device also features an exclusive secondary interrupt flag, EXT_INIT. This flag is set after each transition of the active signal and indicates to the user that the selected DRAM row/column is being accessed. This flag is particularly useful in high-speed memory applications where a dedicated circuit is required to detect memory accesses at extremely high speeds.
At the heart of the MAX4548EAX is the logic core, which controls the signal paths and timing of the device. The logic core is composed of two analog multiplexers and two digital multiplexers. The analog multiplexers switch two signals between two out paths, allowing for a single signal or dual signal configuration (depending on the user’s application requirements). The analog multiplexers switch the two signals at a rate of up to 200MHz, allowing for fast signal routing and switching. The digital multiplexers switch two signals between two out paths, again allowing for a single or dual signal configuration.
