With the PNP transistors being used as the gate-drive transistors, the voltage necessary for switch operation is greatly reduced. This helps reduce power consumption, enabling the MAX4549EAX+ to be used in battery-powered applications.As the channel is enabled, the internal PNP transistor pulls a high voltage to the FET gate, resulting in the gate being "on". This causes the gate-source voltage to drop to low on resistance, thereby connecting the channel between the source and the drain. When the channel is disabled, the internal PNP transistor is driven to a low voltage, thus pulling the gate of the FET to zero, resulting in a high resistance state between source and the drain.The switching characteristics of the MAX4549EAX+ are enhanced due to the low Ron, which is typically equal to or less than 0.5Ω in the "on" state.
