Application Field
The MAX4845CEYT+ is an ideal voltage-level translation solution for a wide variety of applications. Its integrated, bidirectional logic converter allows for a compact, easy-to-implement solution for low-voltage application processor to meet a wide range of voltage requirements, from 0.6V to 3.6V.
It is well-suited for applications such as consumer electronics, cellphones, notebooks, and other ICs that are required to interface with different logic voltages. It is also suitable for mixed-signal applications, in which the mixed-signal inputs of one *IC must be translated to a higher or lower logic voltage levels that are compatible with that of the other IC.
Furthermore, it can be used as an external voltage supervisor in embedded applications, providing power-fail capability, where lower cost and fast response time is desired. Additionally, it can be applied to protection circuits requiring multiple control voltage domains, e.g., between the digital and analog circuits.
Working Principle
The MAX4845CEYT+ chip is able to convert logic levels from one voltage domain to another by using its integrated bidirectional logic converter. This integrated logic converter allows high-speed, low-switching and low-power level translation operation.
The MAX4845CEYT+ has low-standby current consumption of 0.03µA, while offering a maximum current drive capability of up to 2mA per output. It is designed with protection against input voltages up to 5V and, thus, helps protecting sensitive logic inputs such as ADC/DAC interface, or power sequencing chips, as well as delays of up to 20ns for a complete logic conversion cycle.
The MAX4845CEYT+ input and output allow for two different logic voltage domains, thanks to the on-board voltage comparison block. This block, when working in conjunction with a power-fail detector, helps protect sensitive circuitry from overvoltage events. The MAX4845CEYT+ also provides over-voltage and short-circuit protection for the inputs and outputs, for even more reliability.
