The MAX489EESD is suitable for use in various data communication applications, including CAN bus systems that require high-speed, low-power by communication interface standards. Working Principle

The working principle of the MAX489EESD device is based on the voltage-level shifter technology, which enables the transceiver to efficiently transmit and receive signals that meet both electrical and electromechanical requirements. The transceiver is a dual-channel system, with two channels A and B having independent differential lines. The channels operate independently, with their own mode of operation. Channel A is used for the device’s transmission of a serial data stream, while channel B is used for the device’s reception of a serial data stream.

On the device’s transmission side, channel A accepts a digital signal with a voltage level between 0–3.6 volts. It modulates this digital signal into a differential line. The combined signals then travel over the main differential line, towards the receiving part of the device. This part of the device is known as channel B. Channel B is designed to detect when the incoming signal crosses the field-effect threshold level, informs the logic control circuitry of the voltage level, and then converts the incoming signal into a digital word.

The device also utilizes a termination technique known as the source-termination technique. In this technique, a resistor is installed at the end of both the transmitting and receiving lines. This resistor matches the impedance of the line, ensuring a reflection-free and optimum speed of operations. The MAX489EESD also supplies protection from short circuits, power over-voltage or under-voltage, voltage mismatches and erroneous ground connections.
