PMIC (Power Supply Controllers, Monitors) The MAX4978ETA+T is a compact solution that provides a power supply controller, power supply monitor and data acquisition (DAQ) application field in one chip. It also offers a complete digital power solution to manage low-voltage power supplies, including power-supply monitoring, digital voltage regulation, and output sequencing. The device operates over a wide input-voltage range, delivering maximum efficiency and load transient control and is designed for a range of applications such as automotive, consumer and industrial.The MAX4978ETA+T integrates higher-level power supply functionality such as input-voltage protection, over/under-voltage protection, and over-temperature protection, as well as power-supply monitoring features. Additionally, the device includes a comprehensive temperature-compensated voltage regulator (Voltage Controlled Oscillator, or VCO) and internal soft-start circuitry. The integrated AC and DC line compensation and peak current control (PCC) features enable the device to be used in multiple voltage-rail system applications, as well as multi-stage and multi-rail voltage regulators. The controller also includes an advanced line compensation filter, reducing output noise and EMI.The MAX4978ETA+T’s integrated voltage regulation supports both synchronous and asynchronous buck topologies. The device operates over a wide PWM frequency range and supports a number of output-voltage option settings. It also supports over-voltage protection for input voltages up to 120V, allowing for flexibility in power supply design. The device’s internal power-supply monitoring consists of an ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) that reads the input and output voltages and a DC-to-DC converter for output voltage control. The ADC’s programmable resolution allows for accurate detection of input and output voltages, while the DC-to-DC converter enables coarse and fine output voltage control.In addition to its power-supply controller and power-supply monitoring features, the MAX4978ETA+T also includes an integrated data acquisition (DAQ) system, providing the necessary measurements to monitor power-supply performance. The integrated DAQ system includes a VCO and an ADC, enabling the acquisition of multiple inputs with sampling rates as high as 500kHz.To ensure safe and reliable operation, the MAX4978ETA+T also includes a comprehensive set of safety features. These include reverse-voltage protection and short-circuit protection, as well as over-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature protection. The safety features protect the device itself, as well as the system connected to it.The MAX4978ETA+T offers a comprehensive power supply controller, power supply monitor and DAQ application field in a single chip. It provides maximum efficiency, output transient control, and a wide range of safety features, making it suitable for applications in automotive, consumer and industrial markets.
