MAX5008CUB+T Application Field and Working Principle
Maxim Integrated introduces the MAX5008CUB+T, a highly-efficient, standard- and low-dropout (LDO) regulator with auto-configuring current-limit capabilities. This device is suitable for battery-operated portable applications such as mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and Cellular Terminals. It is part of the portfolio of PMICs (power management integrated circuits) under the special purpose voltage regulator category.
The MAX5008CUB+T operates over an extended input voltage range of 2.3V to 5.5V, with an enables and a single output that can generate up to 1A of continuous output current. Its low quiescent current of only 27uA (at 250mA) makes the device suitable for applications such as battery-powered systems, notebook PCs, and portable media players that require less power consumption.
The MAX5008CUB+T is designed to provide superior power management between the power supply and the load, for a wide range of input, output, and load conditions, significantly extending the life of the battery. With its wide differential input voltage range of up to 2.3V to 5.5V, it enables a low 1.2V output voltage that can be adjusted with external resistors. Its Adaptive Peak Current Limit (APCL) auto-configures to easily and accurately achieve the required current limit level.
The APCL feature of the MAX5008CUB+T enhance the ability of the device to quickly adjust to the output current, allowing it to perform under a wide range of conditions and reduce power dissipation. It also ensures that the switch does not saturate, as excess current can result in increased power dissipation. The APCL feature also helps prevent \'latch-up\' during load transients, resulting in lower output noise and better system stability.

The unique design of the MAX5008CUB+T eliminates the need for heatsink and can reduce thermal stress and component design complexity.
