The MAX5015EVKIT+ is an evaluation board for DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS (switched mode power supply). It is intended to inspire engineers to develop and experiment with DC/DC or AC/DC power system applications. This evaluation board was designed to operate with the MAX5015+ high performance integrated controller IC, for low power and high power application, such as industrial, medical and automotive power system. In addition, it is intended to demonstrate the attributes and flexibility associated with the "plus" range of switching controllers.
The MAX5015EVKIT+ board is a high power evaluation system featuring a control IC that is capable of operating from 0.8~18V (up to 24A) and a maximum pulse of 1525W, allowing a range of user-defined current levels. The evaluation system includes a complete evaluation board and all necessary components to build a complete system with no additional parts. The design includes an LED indicator which can be used to indicate the state of the voltage control loop.
The primary application fields of MAX5015EVKIT+ include DC/DC or AC/DC (off-line) switch-mode power converters and controllers used in a wide range of applications. These applications include solar, industrial, automotive, medical, home appliance, and computing power supply. Additionally, the evaluation board can be used for other applications such as voltage regulation, DC-DC converters, DC-AC inverters, or AC-DC converters.
The characteristics of the MAX5015EVKIT+ board include adjustable switching frequency (7KHz to 150KHz), wide ambient temperature range (-40°C to 85°C), and wide input voltage range (0.8V to 18V). The board also features excellent dynamic performance, with fast loop response to line, load, and environmental conditions. The system can drive MOSFETs or IGBTs at high frequency, providing high efficiency and low system cost.
The evaluation board is designed with the MAX5015+ integrated controller IC mounted on a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) in a 4-exposure through-hole pad array. It is capable of delivering very accurate control of the output voltage over a wide range of line and load conditions and applications. The IC is mounted on a separate PCB and the entire evaluation board is enclosed in a rugged enclosure.
The MAX5015EVKIT+ board is equipped with many peripheral components, allowing the user to quickly evaluate and experiment with different DC/DC or AC/DC power system applications. The components include a Nylon enclosure that can accommodate up to two daughter boards, two opto-isolated variable DC power supplies, two digital isolators and a 3-phase AC/DC power supply. The board also features two current sense inputs, two voltage sense inputs, a temperature sense input, a PWM output, and an interrupter output. Additionally, the board is equipped with a built-in temperature sensor to measure the temperature of the evaluation board.
The MAX5015EVKIT+ board can provide very accurate control of output voltage, over a wide range of conditions and applications. Its features include adjustable switching frequency, wide operating temperature range, fast loop response to line and load conditions, and flexible design for connection to external circuitry. The evaluation kit is ideal for developing and testing DC/DC or AC/DC switching systems, as well as for prototyping new, innovative products.
