MAX5035CUSA+ is a 300W integrated synchronous step-down voltage regulator suitable for point-of-load (POL) power domains. This DC-DC switching regulator integrates switch-mode power delivery and Smart Power technology to provide fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation in a small space-saving footprint. It helps reduce cost, risk, and time to market in industrial and communications systems.

The MAX5035CUSA+ is designed to convert input voltages ranging from 2.5V to 6V to output voltages ranging from 0.6V to 5V. It has a switching frequency of up to 1.2MHz and an adjustable soft-start time. The device also features overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent protections with accurate limits.

The device features a fully-integrated synchronous-rectifier, high-frequency power MOSFET with integrated gate driver, adjustable soft-start, overvoltage/undervoltage protection, and thermal-shutdown protection. It also provides low output voltage ripple and high efficiency at light loads. Additionally, the MAX5035CUSA+ has an integrated, current-mode controlled, onboard spread-spectrum clock oscillator to reduce conducted and radiated EMI emissions.

The MAX5035CUSA+ operation is based on the voltage discrepancy between the input voltage and the feedback voltage. When the input is higher than the feedback voltage, the internal circuit turns the low-side MOSFET on, connecting the output load to the input voltage. When the input voltage drops below the feedback voltage, the circuit turns the low-side MOSFET off and the high-side MOSFET on, connecting the output load to the internal switch node. This alternation of off/on cycles produces the desired output voltage.

The MAX5035CUSA+ features sophisticated protection features like adjustable overvoltage protection and undervoltage lockout. It also has a current-limit comparator, which trips the protection logic if the output current exceeds the internal programmed value. The primary protection feature of this device is thermal shutdown. It turns off the internal switch when the junction temperature exceeds 140 °C. This prevents the device from any thermal damage caused by prolonged overloading or a short circuit.

The MAX5035CUSA+ offer a comprehensive solution suited for a variety of applications. It supports both constant-voltage and constant-current regulation modes to provide regulated voltage across the load. It works with step-down and step-up input/output configurations with low bill-of-materials cost. This device is further modified to have a 6V input with 0.6V to 5V adjustable output.
