Utilizing the Delphi Maximus II architecture, the MAX503CAG employs several techniques, including Digital Variable Gain Amplification (DVGA), to obtain a resolution of 12-bits and an accuracy of ± 0.5 percent across the full analog voltage range. The MAX503CAG is ideal for applications such as automotive, industrial, or medical test and measurements, direct digital synthesizers, automatic test equipment, and military systems.The MAX503CAG DAC architecture enables high resolution and accuracy while maintaining low power operation. The MAX503CAG operates using a single 5-volt power supply, with power consumption as low as 200 mW. The DAC also features the option of either a current output or voltage output, allowing the device to be tailored to the user’s needs.The MAX503CAG utilizes a unique switching technique, known as Digital Variable Gain Amplification (DVGA), that allows successive Digital to Analog conversion cycles to perform as if they were single-step conversions. DVGA enables the MAX503CAG to reduce the amount of power needed to convert digital data to analog signals by varying the conversion step size to match the characteristics of the data being converted.In addition to providing high resolution and low power operation, the MAX503CAG possesses advanced features that enable it to provide a means for the user to easily store and recall digital data. Configurable memory registers can be used to store data with up to 16 registers. Data from outside sources can be stored in the memory registers, eliminating the need for the user to continually read in data for the DAC to output.The DAC also features an optional serial interface that can be used for direct communication with other devices. This interface supports a 5-bit command and 10-bit addressable width and supports an industry standard asynchronous serial communication protocol.
