The MAX5068CAUE-T is a low-voltage, high-efficiency, low-cost, Synchronous Step-Down Converter for use in power supplies for home appliances, TV cards and digital video recorders. The device is based on the Control Architecture for Energy Efficient Converters (CAEC).The MAX5068CAUE-T features a switching frequency of 1.25MHz and is capable of delivering up to 1A output current. The device can be used in various applications such as powering processors, I/O ports, and peripherals. The MAX5068CAUE-T also features a standby (with ENABLE pin) and remote sense capability to improve system accuracy and overall power efficiency.

The MAX5068CAUE-T is designed to reduce output ripple caused by dynamic load currents, while providing high-efficiency at all load conditions. The device contains integrated low-side power switches with independent control, enabling a synchronous step-down converter with low output noise and extended load range. In addition, the MAX5068CAUE-T eliminates the need for high-side power switches, which reduces space and cost compared to non-synchronous solutions.

The working principle of MAX5068CAUE-T is based on the CAEC architecture. CAEC combines high performance synchronous step-down DC-DC conversion with features such as flexible input voltage regulation, high-efficiency current-mode control, and pulse-skipping modes. This architecture also allows for fast transient response and soft-startup with minimal current surge.

The core of the MAX5068CAUE-T includes a low-side gate driver, dual independent low-side gate drivers, current sensing, low and high current-mode control loop, temperature sensing, feedback and synchronization with external clock. The device also features an active frequency-foldback that allows the operating frequency to reduce as the load current increases.

The MAX5068CAUE-T offers an adjustable output voltage from 0.9V to 5V, and features a programmable soft-start, adjustable over-current protection and over-temperature protection for improved system reliability. The device also includes an integrated integrated N-Channel MOSFET, enabling a complete high-efficiency step-down converter solution.

The MAX5068CAUE-T can be used in a wide range of AC/DC converter, offline switchers, and battery charger applications. The device can also be used in automotive, consumer, industrial and medical applications, as well as in point-of-load (POL) regulation.
