The MAX5072EVKIT is an evaluation kit designed to evaluate the performance of the MAX5072, an integrated circuit controller intended for off-line DC/DC and AC/DC switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). The MAX5072EVKIT provides the necessary components to build a benchmark system for comparing the performance of the controller before and after optimization. The working principle of the MAX5072 can be summarized as follows: when the AC power supply is applied, the overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent protections are enabled, and the soft-start capacitor and current-sensing resistors are supplied with a voltage source, ensuring that the usage of the MAX5072 is safe. When the maximum start up time is reached, the Vcc pin of the MAX5072 will be enabled, providing the switching on signal for the FET switch and start a period of oscillation. The internal oscillator will generate pulse signals according to the oscillation parameter setting, controlling the FET switch and transforming the AC voltage into the DC output voltage. Meanwhile, the output load current is sensed and compared against the current limit, then the pulse signal keeps on adjusting the duty cycle of the FET switch, at the same time monitoring the output voltage to maintain its regulation stability. Finally, the output voltage of the MAX5072 is stabilized at the desired voltage.
