MAX5074EVKIT Application Field and Working Principle
Evaluation Boards – DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS are power supply boards designed to test the suitability of different DC/DC and AC/DC Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) products. The MAX5074EVKIT is a comprehensive, high performance evaluation kit for power designers and applications engineers. Designed to demonstrate the Multiple Chip Solution (MCS), MAX5074EVKIT provides the flexibility to enable the user to quickly and accurately measure the overall performance of the MAX5074 overload protection and synchronous rectification system.The MAX5074EVKIT employs the MAX5074 power stack that includes the MAX5071/MAX5072/MAX5073/MAX5074 ICs to construct a efficient and low cost power supply solution. The MAX5074, together with other ICs, provides an efficient and reliable solution to off-line SMPS applications up to 3A output current. It also features a low external component count, provides precise overload protection characteristics with fault latch, and synchronous rectification control. Its application field includes telecom, computer systems, consumer electronics, consumer and industrial appliances, lightings, medical and motor-control applications. The MAX5074EVKIT board includes low side and high side MOSFETs, an 85V DC/DC at 3A switching power supply isolated from the input voltage, and two noise-reduction snubber networks. The MAX5074EVKIT board has a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) provide easy access for adjusting and measuring the MCS performance.This power stack contains two 650V MOSFETs that serve as an integrated bridge-rectifier as well as a synchronous rectifier. The ICs also contain circuitry for AC detection, current limit, overvoltage protection, soft-start, frequency jitter, and many other logic functions. The MAX5074EVKIT board also contains a dedicated current-sense IC that integrates the selected MOSFETs and senses the current flow through them. In addition, the MAX5074EVKIT features an adjustable low-side and high-side drive capability that provides the user body with robust performance in many power niche applications. Variable pull-up resistor signals are provided, allowing the user to select the frequency of the switching MOSFETs. The MAX5074EVKIT also contains two advanced Synchronous Select (SSS) circuits, which can increase the overall efficiency of the power supply by reducing the input power dissipation. The MAX5074EVKIT also provides the user with a variety of monitoring and fault-detection features. The user can monitor output voltage, output current, input voltage, over temperature, output power, and current sharing. Each pin is individually protected with hot-swap and ESD protection, ensuring the user a reliable performance in operation.In conclusion, the MAX5074EVKIT provides the user with a comprehensive evaluation platform for observing the features and performance of all power switches connected in the MAX5074 power stack. Its application field covers a wide array of digital consumer and industrial applications, and the high-performance features of the board will make it an economical option for many power applications.
