The MAX5093EVKIT evaluation boards are part of a family of DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supplies) that offer a wide range of features, functions and performance. The MAX5093EVKIT boards provide an easy to use platform for evaluating the performance and features of the MAX5093 integrated switch-mode power supply chips, providing one of the highest levels of integration in the industry.
The MAX5093EVKIT DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) power supplies are designed for a wide range of wall- or battery-powered applications such as handheld and mobile phone applications, consumer electronics, and automotive products. The MAX5093EVKIT uses a wide input voltage operating range (of 4.5V to 28V) and outputs a regulated 5V at up to 1.5A, with a low drop-out voltage of 95mV (at full load). It also includes a number of other features such as over-voltage, under-voltage and over-temperature protection; input current limitation; and a fast and slow startup.
The MAX5093EVKIT is based on the MAX5093 integrated SMPS chips. This chip is a low-voltage monolithic integrated switch-mode power supply that combines the high-frequency switching transistor, power MOSFET, LDO, and all the necessary control and protection circuits. It also includes high-side and low-side current regulation, low standby power consumption, and programmable protection functions. All of this is integrated on a single chip.
The MAX5093EVKIT board uses the efficient step-down topology of a synchronous rectified buck converter. This topology allows the regulation of the output voltage with high resolution and stability, and at the same time, reduce the input power consumption and provide low output ripple. The switching frequency is adjustable in the range of 500kHz to 3MHz and can be set to an optimal value for a specific application.
The MAX5093EVKIT board is designed to be as flexible as possible, allowing for easy modification for a variety of applications. The board supports the use of different output capacitors, output sense resistors, and other components to optimize the performance for the application. The MAX5093EVKIT also includes dedicated components to improve the circuit\'s noise immunity and minimize the system noise.
