The MAX5116EVKIT+ is a versatile digital-to-analog converter (DAC) evaluation kit that provides an efficient evaluation platform for the MAX5116 and MAX5117 16-bit, buffered, dual-channel digital-to-analog converters (DACs). The kit provides a complete solution for the design of high-performance, high-precision, and cost-sensitive DAC applications. The kit includes the MAX5116 or MAX5117 evaluation board, a DAC voltage reference, and a host control board. The MAX5116EVKIT+ is ideal for gaming, simulation, instrumentation, consumer audio, and consumer video applications.

The MAX5116EVKIT+ incorporates a buffered output and power rail to deliver high-precision and high-accuracy performance. The MAX5116 and MAX5117 incorporate advanced logic circuitry to ensure fast settling and to reduce overall latency. Their advanced logic circuitry also helps alleviate lifting of the internal voltage reference. The integrated power-on reset circuitry ensures consistent operation, even after power cycling or brownouts. The output buffering provides both low-distortion and low-noise operation and has a wide output range (bipolar and unipolar output). The MAX5116 and MAX5117 are capable of programming and shifting from one device to the other in two different modes. In continuous mode, the DACs are programmed in two parts, with the lower four bits shifted in first and then the upper 12 of 16 bits shifted in. As a result, the DACs enter an internal rate conversion mode and are powered up to their maximum levels by the 14-bit internal voltage reference. The second mode is burst (external-rate) mode, which allows the DACs to be programmed in one step using their built-in digital-to-analog converter. In both modes, the MAX5116 and MAX5117 offer high-resolution, low-glitch performance.

The MAX5116 and MAX5117 are constructed on a low-voltage CMOS process with output buffers designed to interface with most logic families and operate over low-voltage (1.7V to 5.5V) and low-power (500mW) supplies. The devices employ enhanced temperature reset architecture to ensure reliable operation across the operating temperature range. In addition, the devices are available in a lead (Pb)-free, RoHS-compliant 16-lead narrow body SO package, for space-sensitive, low-power applications.

The MAX5116EVKIT+ provides an efficient evaluation platform for designers of 16-bit DAC applications. The kit includes all the necessary components, such as a reference voltage and host control board, to facilitate evaluation of the MAX5116 and MAX5117 and to speed prototyping. It can be used to evaluate any of the DACs supported by the MAX5116/5117 and offers deep insight into the performance of each device, reducing time to market.
