Digital to Analog Sensors (DAC) are one of the most important components of many modern electronic systems. Digital to Analog Sensors are an essential part of many machine and process control systems. The MAX514AENG is a 5 bit Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) designed to offer an adjustable low-cost solution for data acquisition applications. It is a general purpose DAC with an excellent temperature coefficient, low voltage drift and wide dynamic range. The MAX514AENG has a 5-bit resolution, allowing it to represent over 30 distinct steps in the analog range. The MAX514AENG contains an 8-channel serial digital-to-analog converter that is capable of providing signals from -20V to +20V. The data is written to the output by a four-bit digital word with a linear transition between the last two bits.The MAX514AENG has two basic functions: converting an analog signal to a digital signal and vice versa. The converter is used to convert digital signals from microprocessors, computers and other digital sources into an analog voltage. To do this, the outputs of the MAX514AENG are combined into an analog signal according to the data present on the converter.In its basic form the converter is referred to as a Digital to Analog multiplexer (DAM); it takes the 8-bit binary data stream from the microcontroller and outputs 4-bit binary data on each of the 4-bit bus lines. This is then sent to the MAX514AENG, which uses the 4-bit data on each bus line to create the desired analog output.The MAX514AENG can also be used to convert an analog input to a digital signal. This is done by converting the analog input to a one-bit pulse that can then be sampled by the converter. The converter is then able to subtract the one-bit pulse of the analog input from the digital output of the converter so that an accurate digital representation of the analog input is achieved. In terms of its bridge circuit operation, the MAX514AENG has two primary components: a low-impedance analog switch and a highly accurate, low-impedance DAC. The switch cycles between two input voltage sources and the DAC digitally controls the output voltage of the switch. The output voltage then is used as either a reference voltage or as the output of the analog-to-digital conversion.
