The MAX517BCSA+ digital-to-analog converter (DAC) combines the benefits of a versatile architecture, small size, and low cost. The device delivers a twos complement output (B-Grade) and is designed for low power applications. It provides a high performance converter with a voltage output range of 0.4 to 16 Volts. Additionally, it offers an internal reference, internal temperature sensor, and external power supply options.

The MAX517BCSA+ architecture includes a one-time programmable interface that controls the DAC\'s power-on settings and bus addressing. It is equipped with two 12-bit DACs, a fundamental DAC that offers voltage output range of 0.2 - 16V and a reference DAC used to conditionally setup the output voltage range. A three-state MUX provides two additional DACs in the family, one providing the reference output and two configurable DACs.

The device is available in both QFN and SOT23 packages, with power consumption of 65 microamps at 1.8V to 1.8mA at 5V for the 12-bit full scale range. Additionally, the power supply range can be adjusted to fit the particular application. An onboard 2kHz PWM (pulse width modulation) input is provided for synchronizing the power delivery with the sampling rate.

The MAX517BCSA+ DAC also provides an external clock input for software-controlled synchronization or for Synchronous Ethernet connectivity. The DAC has an ultra-low latency (<1 microsecond) and fast settling time, making it ideal for low latency data acquisition and applications requiring real-time response. It also features a programmable, watch dog timer that can be used to monitor system health and reset the DAC in the event of a power failure.

For current outputs, the MAX517BCSA+ can be connected to a high speed playback DAC, such as the MAX520BCPA, and an external current amplifier, such as the MAX496BCSN. When connected together, the combo provides a powerful, low latency, and low cost data acquisition system. The MAX520BCPA DAC features a 0.2V - 4V differential output and a programmable gain of up to 6A/V.

The device is capable of providing 12-bit resolution at up to 10MHz signal processing rates.
