DACs are used in various application fields, including audio/visual products, networking and instrumentation.The MAX529CAG is an 8-bit, four-quadrant multiplying low-power DAC from Maxim Integrated. It is a general-purpose attention circuit suitable for a variety of applications. The device offers easy programming and full-scale output current range of 3mA to 15mA without the need for external trimming. The device also features an optional pre-programmed zero-scale pin, providing the full current range setting without the need for manual trimming. The MAX529CAGcan operate as a current output DAC or a voltage output DAC.The MAX529CAG features low power consumption, wide analog and digital range, fast settling time, low output noise, and low total harmonic distortion (THD). It also features a built-in slow-start feature, which helps to reduce the chance of acoustical noise during power-up. The MAX529CAG is offered in a 10-pin Mini SOIC package and is rated for operation between -40°C to +85°C.The MAX529CAG operates on a 3.3V power supply and can interface directly with 3.3V and 5V systems. The analog input is a current-loop bipolar signal having a range of +3 to –3 mA with a full-scale (20 mA) current output range. The DAC responds to the input signal by generating a corresponding analog voltage with a high degree of linearity over the full +/-3 mA range. The digital input is also a bipolar signal from 0 to 5 V, with respect to the ground reference.When a digital signal is applied to the MAX529CAG, the signal is converted to a corresponding current output. This is done by the use of an internal multiplying DAC that converts the digital input signal to a corresponding analog signal. The analog signal is then converted to a current output by a high-speed operational amplifier. The current output is amplified by an external amplifier to the desired level.The MAX529CAG also has many features that help to improve the performance and reliability of the device. It includes a built-in code converter that converts the signal from binary format to linear format. This helps to reduce signal distortion and signal noise. The device also features a soft-start feature that helps to reduce output acoustics during power-up.
