Data acquisition enables the connection between analog and digital domains. Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) allow devices to transform digital signals into an analog output. MAX531AESD+ (previously known as MAX535AESD) is an advanced 8-bit nonvolatile DAC for use in a variety of applications.

This digital-to-analog voltage converter works on the principle of an R-2R network ladder and is offered in 2 packages. The dual-in-line package consists of 2 chips insulated from each other in 32-pin PDIP as well as 28-lead SSOP versions. This 8-bit DAC offers two independent 8-bit voltage output channels and features a ± 5V output range.

The MAX531AESD+ features a low quiescent current of 3mA, a fast output update rate of 50MHz, excellent linearity, low drift, and low noise. This device is ESD-protected to meet the 8kV HBM requirements. Its wide input range allows it to interface directly with TTL/CMOS logic levels.

The MAX531AESD+ supports a wide range of applications including data acquisition systems, precision measurement and control systems, video control systems, instrumentation, image processing systems, and many more.

This device has a 2-wire serial interface that allows the input data to be loaded into the DAC register. The device operates from a single 5V supply and is capable of providing 8-bit resolution with a wide range of output voltage depending on the external resistors used. The output voltage is updated on the rising edge of the LDAC signal and is maintained, even when the input data is changed.

The MAX531AESD+ has an on-chip voltage reference circuitry, which provides an output voltage of 2.5V regardless of the supply voltage or load current. The on-chip reference is also used to provide power-on reset and programmable gain adjustment, making adjustment of the output voltage simple.
